Board of Directors

Our organization is busy and growing, and we require dedicated board members to help us keep up with the demand for our services. As such, we are currently seeking motivated and creative candidates to join our Volunteer Board of Directors. Your passion and enthusiasm for helping fellow Calgarians through short term situations of adversity will make an important difference every day in the work we do.

As we are a volunteer-run organization, our board is considered a “working” board. Essentially we all roll up our sleeves and do whatever needs to be done, from planning and organizing events, to baking and barbequing, to laundry and cleaning, picking up donations to making deliveries and more. Board members are expected to prepare for, attend and participate in monthly board meetings, the Annual General Meeting and events & activities throughout the year. Each board member is assigned a sub-committee and meetings may be scheduled when required. Please note that this is a volunteer position with no salary or commission.

While previous board experience is not required, some of the general expectations we are looking for include:

• Willing to put the time, energy and enthusiasm into a long-term commitment to your board role
• Deeply committed to volunteerism and a passion for community initiatives
• Must have previous experience volunteering with Made by Momma
• Have compassion and understanding for those we serve
• Knowledge of and a commitment to the mission, by-laws and organizational values.
• Willing to serve on committees and attend committee meetings.
• Stay informed about committee matters, prepare themselves well for meetings, and review and comment on minutes and reports.
• Volunteer for and willingly accept assignments and complete them thoroughly and on time.
• Participate in the planning and execution of fundraising and community events
• Availability to meet at our Volunteer Resource Centre in West Hillhurst NW
• Must have regular online access to email and the internet (incl. Facebook, Meetup)

Due to the nature of our volunteer-run organization and our need for succession planning, we are looking for long term commitments to ensure our work remains consistent and effective. Current available positions have a minimum two-year commitment.
