GROUP COOKS AT MADE BY MOMMA

Depending on the availability of our Group Cooks volunteers, events can be scheduled morning, afternoon, evening or weekend.

Event Description:

We have a wonderful NEW kitchen where we offer groups of 4 – 20+ people the opportunity to help us stock our freezers.   These hands-on cooking experiences are on average 3 – 4 hours long. Depending on the group size we will make main courses plus baked goods or dessert. You will be given recipes to follow, however adding your personal touch is encouraged! These events are a lot of fun and open to every level of culinary skill!

What to expect at your group cook:

The cook will be led by a Made by Momma volunteer.  You will have a brief orientation to our kitchen and safety guidelines will be reviewed.  The kitchen will be set up with several stations/recipes and volunteers will choose their stations.  There will be recipes printed for you to follow.  Once all the meals are prepared they are then packaged, labelled and frozen, ready for delivery to the families Made by Momma is assisting. The group then cleans the kitchen following our guidelines/checklist and ensures the kitchen is clean and ready for the next group.

Where do the meals go?

Prior to your event, our volunteer team lead will liaise with our assistance coordinator to understand the dietary needs of the families we are currently assisting. Many families are undergoing treatments for cancer or other illnesses, and as a result, their diets need specific or extra nutrients to supplement the effects of their medical treatments. All of the meals are prepared, packaged, then labelled and frozen, ready for delivery to the families Made by Momma is assisting. Meals are sent out to families facing situations of adversity and crisis.  On average we send care packages out to 30 – 50 families each week.  We provide each family with two weeks’ worth of healthy prepared meals plus wholesome baked goods, fresh bread and any other needed essentials.

Who is Made by Momma?

Made by Momma is a grassroots non-profit organization and registered Canadian charity located in Calgary. We help families facing situations of adversity and crisis by providing healthy prepared meals, wholesome baked goods, baby essentials, children’s items, supportive in-home visitors and other services to allow mothers the time they need to rest, recover and focus on their families. Because we are volunteer-run, our operating costs are low, and the donated dollars and items go a long way.

Made by Momma Group Cook Payment Information

The cost is $500.00 for up to 10 people (plus $50 for each additional person) and our team plans the menu, shops for the groceries and provides all ingredients, labels and containers. (please note that due to the rising cost of food / supplies, our price had to increase for the group cook opportunities as of January 1, 2025)

Charitable tax receipts can be issued only if requested.

$500 non-refundable payment is required at the time of booking. If the cook is cancelled, the $500 can be applied to a future cook. Final numbers must be to Group Cook Coordinator 7 days prior to the cook.

Payment options:

Cheque: Payable to Made by Momma, can be mailed or dropped off at the centre. We have a secure mailbox at our main door for your convenience.

Debit Card: Payment can be made in person at the resource centre.

Visa or MasterCard: Payment can be made over the phone or in person at the centre.

Electronically: Please go to https://madebymomma.org/donations and pay through our Pay Pal account (we use this for donations too, so it may seem as though you are making a donation).  Please forward a copy of the receipt to groupcooks @ madebymomma .org (NO SPACES)

Cancellation policy:

Cancellation 7 days or more before the cook: Your $500 non-refundable fee can be applied to future events or a receipt can be issued for a cash donation.

Cancellation 7 days or less before the cook: We are unable to offer any compensation as the food for the event will have already been purchased. We thank you for your understanding.
